 Kiran's Biological Family

Rhazien Starmantle
According to Kiran's father the world needs to burn. The reason for this is simple enough, the world always burns. In fact, it has never stopped burning. Those who cannot see the fire are only blind to the truth. However, he does not begrudge the blind. It isn't their fault they cannot see. He used to be blind himself, but then he peered into the eyes of the god of ultimate truth.

Saida La Croix
Kiran's mother was once an adventurer. She ran away from home to seek adventure and fortune and on that search she found herself a very charismatic human lover, a sorcerer named Rhazien Starmantle. He used to be a good man. Emotion and empathy came slowly to him, but he always ended up finding the truth of a situation. Saida loved him dearly, but when it became obvious Rhazien's mind was fraying she found herself unable to stay with him. When she became pregnant she feared for the safety of their child and she went back to her family, hoping that she and her child would be protected by her father's magic. Unfortunately, though his magic was strong, it was not strong enough. Shortly after her son was born their home was consumed in flames. The only survivors were her father and son.

Sythaeryn La Croix
Kiran's grandfather had made it his mission to see that the madman Rhazien Starmantle could never harm another living soul with his truth. He had finally gotten back his wayward daughter only to lose not only her, but his wife and three other daughters to cackling flames. He intrusted his grandson to his lover Balin Delmirev and set out on his manhunt. He did manage to catch Rhazien Starmantle, but he was unwilling to compromise his principals and kill him. Instead he saw to it that the insane sorcerer was locked away in a magical labyrinth that he would be forced to wander for eternity with no hope of ever reaching the end. After his revenge was was attained he returned to his lover, only to find out that the grandson he'd left in his care had been given to his sister, and had recently run away from home.

Kiran's Crimes
Kiran has a secret that, if discovered, could destroy the reputation of his family. He has murdered several people in cold calculated blood. While for the most part the murders could be swept under the rug if discovered since they were usually brigands and loan sharks, there are two that would actually cause problems.

Jacques St. Baird
Son of Ambassador Lamond St. Baird. Jacques was a lech and a cheat, but a charming one that often got away with it without having to inform anyone of who his father is that often. He fancied himself untouchable by the law, and when he was targeted by Kriv for a con he caught on to the swindle and threatened to have Kriv arrested. Instead of going through with his threat, however, he decided to dig up more dirt on Kriv and use it to blackmail him into doing degrading tasks for him. Kiran found out about this and went to reason with Jacques. However, when it was obvious the man had no intention of letting his little brother go, even if the price they negotiated was paid, he handled things more permanently. According to the public Jacques was gutted and robbed in a dark alley by thugs. The truth, however, is that he was lured to an inn with promise of payment for Kriv's freedom and was met with a sharp dagger. Kiran did not actually commit this murder directly, that honor went to his accomplice as he held Jacques down. When the deed was done he was dragged to a lonely alley and Kiran's accomplice magically sterilized the area of any trace that they were there.

Angelica Pardue
The accomplice and, for a time, Kiran's confidant and lover. Angelica was the top of her class at the academy. They met when she was invited to Kiran's grandfather's home for dinner at the same time he was staying there. Amazing things were expected of her, and she was a bright shining star of a pupil. However, Kiran could see there was a darkness in her and he felt himself attracted to it. It was easy to charm Angelica, though he hadn't really been trying. She found him exotic and the fact that his grandfather ran the academy was more than enough for her to respond to his advances. The two courted for months in the public eye while having a lewd love affair in private. The darkness Kiran saw in her manifested itself during their private hours as domination and sadism. Kiran wasn't thrilled by this, but he was willing to try anything she pleased since it made her happy, and things were just easier between them when she was happy.

Despite his best efforts, Kiran could never seem to make himself love the woman. However, their courtship was so well received by both of their families he felt he couldn't simply walk away from it. Angelica caught on that he was continuing with her out of duty, and that Kriv was the only person he ever showed his true face to. She grew jealous of how close the brothers were, and how Kriv held Kiran's absolute loyalty. When Jacques started to cause waves it was Angelica who suggested they lure him to her father's inn and take him out of the picture. After some debate she convinced him that often the best solution is the most permanent, so he followed through with her plan. The murder, however, seemed to spark a fire in Angelica. The heat that rose within her gave the two the greatest night of passion they'd ever had, and one that she found herself deeply wishing to repeat. It then fell into her mind that she could take care of two birds with one stone. She could kill Kriv, thus putting Kiran's loyalty squarely on her and giving her the chance to feel the excitement the first murder had given her.

When Kiran learned of this he quietly decided that things needed to end between them. However, he knew her to be an unpredictable woman who would forever be a danger to herself and his family. So he dealt with the problem in the most permanent manner possible. He poisoned her. According to the public Angelica killed herself. The letter she left behind was both poetic and deeply detailed how she felt crushed under the pressure of expectations.
